Default For ppl that have had the P0420 Code and got it fixed

I was just wondering.....
For everyone that has had the P0420 code pop up, and has had it fixed.
What was the fix?
I would like to get a list started so that we can see how many have been misdiagnosed.

According to Lexus, this means that the cats are bad and they always want to replace both for around $3400.00 They do not even want to check the o2 sensor functions until the cats are replaced.

So what items were replaced to get rid of your code?
MAF
O2 sensors
Catalytic converter

I've not had the code, but FYI unless you're beyond 80,000 miles your cats are still under warranty.

I had that same exact code (P0420) on my 02 jetta and it was related to the CAT as well. But they were known to have CAT problems. I think you can tell if you have a bad cat by putting it up on the lift. If you bang around the one section you can hear something that sounds like pebbles knocking together. Its the honey comb inside your CAT which goes bad I believe. You should be good with an aftermarket one from midas for less then half that price. It cost me about $400 but will probably be more because its a lexus. But they did a good job, problem never came back

It is the catalytic converter. I bought a used one on ebay and changed it myself and it fixed the problem.

I would not go OEM if I wanted to replace the catalytic converter. They are way too expensive. Have it done aftermarket partrs.

Hope you fellas know when replace the cat it's includes header too. It's all one piece so hfc don't work unless your running after market headers. Plus I wouldn't buy a use cat. It's pretty much oem or nothing.
