That's really up to Lexus.
My IS is in warranty until October 2015... so I'm going to look to sell it fall of 2014 with a year of warranty left on it.
At that point the 3IS should be in its 2nd or 3rd model year... if it's awesome I'm likely to buy one. If the trend of the 09->11 changes continues and it looks terrible with not-much-improved performance I'll have to look elsewhere... but honestly no idea where as not much else out right now, for any reasonable price, appeals to me... possibly whatever the Infiniti-G is offering at the time if they get some of the weight out of the thing... or maybe even a Hyundai if they go ahead and offer a smaller RWD sedan than the Genesis (or put the V8 in the coupe )
I'd have considered an FT-86 if they hadn't decided to go full celica on it and give it a lame NA motor.

Married - Porsche Carrera or Cayman; Lexus 3IS (it has to be pretty freakin' stellar) or whatever they have in their F-line up; MB C63...
Kids - Lexus GS or LS; MB MLK; Porsche Turbo Cayenne (Mama needs to still have her fun, darn it!)
Homeless - Cardboard box replica of any of the above, a la this dude: http://www.epicfail.com/2011/04/17/e...e-porsche-win/
No. Way.

Since I will probably be married next year and have at least 1 rugrat the year after that will probably need to go a bit bigger than the IS. Thinking a Porsche Cayenne or a Lexus GX.

By the time I sell my IS350 I'll likely need to be looking into a larger car for family reasons. I definitely will still consider the 3IS when it comes out, however only on one condition: they MUST change the dash design. It's appalling that Lexus took such a shoddy approach to the dash cover design on the 2IS, and it should have been obvious that it would lead to rattling issues. I've never been in a car where you can push on the center of the dash and have it flex up and down a full inch or two. Other things have also failed due to intentional choice of poor quality materials (windshield molding, plastic kick-panels in footwells, etc). I know it's Lexus' least expensive model, but it's still a Lexus; they need to up the IS build and material quality a bit to bring it in line with the Lexus reputation.
Overall though very happy with my car and I'll definitely consider the 3IS if they fix the above-mentioned things. I will still want a 4-door performance sedan, but I've had an AMG and because of it I'll never buy another Mercedes, and BMW and Audi have the same reliability issues which I'm not anxious to jump into. I'd love to see a GS-F come out soon, so by the time I sell this car there are a few out on the used market.

ive had 5 cars since my IS already. but i WILL be getting a 2011 IS350 in the future. no need for me to pay the depreciation on the car. I loved my IS a lot. and since i wont be paying 4k a year on insurance when i get one again, i was 19 and bought it myself and had my own insurance plan so it cost arm and a leg lol
