Would like a AMG C63 and a s2k to kick around. Also a S5 would be my other choice.

I might consider a really nice 3IS F-Sport package several years from now, if they end up making one.

RX-7 w/ Veilside bodykit = one of my dream cars. I was considering selling my IS350 for a long time to do this + a 2JZ swap on it.

Then gave up that dream soon after realizing for me to get the car where I wanted would cost me easily ~40k... which is pretty unattainable for a university student :P

For the record to people who don't understand the jump from the IS to the 911:

A second hand 911 goes for around $50-60K for a good example. What did your IS cost new? Mine cost me in Canada around $45k, plus $7-8k on mods. So when the time comes (in a few years) I'd likely be looking to spend a little bit more on my next jalopy. This combined with the likelihood of an appreciating salary (and that I don't have any kids right now XD), a 911 isn't exactly out of reach for a lot of people on CL.

You're right, but it's not just comparing the outright purchase price of the car, especially when you're comparing new vs. used. A new IS for $40k comes with a full 4 year factory warranty, so the only things you need to worry about are maintenance and gas. I just did a search on Cars.com for 911s setting $60k as the max. You're right, you can get a nice example of a used 911 for $60k. But the most recent year that was available for $60k was 2008, and there were only a handful of these. The vast, vast majority of 911s for $60k are 2007 and younger, meaning you're out of factory warranty. There were no certified Porsches on the list either. There's a reason when you do this search you only see 2007s and older and no certified ones; because Porsches are extremely expensive to repair and maintain and aren't known for reliability, so warrantied and certified cars go for more than $60k on the used market. Sure, you can get one with only 7k miles on it, but you'll be footing the bill for any and all issues that happen, and you can bet Porsche repairs and service are even more expensive than the ludicrously expensive Lexus service we CL members love to collectively bemoan. Furthermore, I'm assuming most people on here wouldn't be paying cash, so financing is a major consideration, and it's far easier to get financing when buying a new car and on better terms (lower rates, etc). It's a bigger risk for the bank or financing company to finance a loan on a used car, so rates and terms are usually less beneficial. Finally, I think one of the main draws to the IS expressed here on CL is the fact that its a 4-door. It's surprising then that people would be looking to move from a 4-door to a 2-door just at the time they're getting older and moving into the stage where a family is more likely.

I'm not saying a 911 isn't out of reach for people on CL. If we're comparing apples to apples and looking at new only, then yes, 911s and GTRs are out of reach for most people in general, not just on CL. If you compare new to used, then you can always find a used example of a car that will compare to a new car's price, you just may have to go back in years and up in miles. But as in the case above, this entails trade-offs that are almost as significant as the up-front purchase price of the car; namely, being out of factory warranty and not being able to finance on the same terms, if at all.

There's an astounding number of people in this thread who have listed 911, GTR, etc as their next cars. I was under the impression this was a thread for what you're seriously considering actually purchasing as your next car, not what you dream of having. Of course some people might actually have those cars in their consideration set. But there must be a lot of people recently coming into money to be jumping from $30k IS250s to $90k 911s and GTRs..

lol I think I will keep my 2IS for about 6 years or so before considering 3IS or other entry level sport sedans. I will consider BMW, MB, and Audi along the line. If I won the lottery, I will leave this forum and buy me a 599 GTB as a daily driver....

Porsche 911 S or a Lotus Evora (although I would probably still keep the IS350 unless it completely dies)
