I started filming some more. This drive I filmed using the suction cup mount on the top of the windshield. I'm still experimenting with different angles.

I have something better for those worried about bugs, rocks, etc...

BlackVue DR400G-HD <----- just google that. It's the perfect black box and android compatible.

small as heck, records GPS route, your mph, time and date along w/ a never ending loop of video.

Blackvue looks pretty cool, I've seen them before. Only thing is that is it limited to car applications only. I use my Contour for when I go snowboarding, longboarding, and cycling. Bugs and rocks really aren't a problem, the camera is an action helmet cam, meant for this kind of stuff and it's water resistant.(The new ContourRoam is even waterproof) In the event that a rock does crack the front glass, the lens is still protected. The Blackvue is fixed in one spot with the adhesive, I'm not sure if you can relocate it after you've fixed it.

The Blackvue doesn't have an internal battery so it is limited to being mounted inside the vehicle. My Contour's battery matches the 16gb microSD card I have so that they will shoot approximately 30-60 minutes total for high quality footage.

Technical specs, both can shoot at the same resolution, 1080p, and they do this at 30fps. At 720p, the blackvue can shoot at a maximum of 30fps, whereas the Contour can shoot at 60fps. The angle of view is also greater on the Contour, 150* vs. 98.75*. The Contour+ has an angle of view of 170* even.

The ContourRoam, the base model with just video can be had for $150, where the Blackvue is $250. Contour makes models that can do GPS and connect over bluetooth for a viewfinder, these start at $300.

I see the Blackvue as a surveillence device moreso than an action camcorder. My Contour has been mounted on nearly every body panel of my car using the suction cup mount. I plan to pick up a ContourRoam soon to get multi angle shots, like one in the tow hook and one on top during the same run. New features of the ContourRoam over my ContourHD include automatic exposure and white balance, and ability to take 5megapixel photos. Only downside is it doesn't do 720p at 60fps, only 30fps. GoPro can take 11megapixel photos.

Both cameras are excellent choices either way you go. WRC and F1 as well as other racing teams use action cameras like the Contour or GoPro to get their in car footage, while others use much higher end equipment. Blackview and Contour just cater to different purposes and do them both pretty well respectively.
