Something like that will work. Don't buy the ones available at Autozone. Their "F" cap is 65-67mm and is universal. I tried it and it kept slipping since my filter housing was overtightened from the dealer.

Ya, I just had to order a new filter wrench since I misplaced mine somehow.... it sucked because I already had the oil drained when I figured out I had no wrench. I'm a pretty strong guy and I couldn't loosen that filter without help.... so ya, I'm pretty sure you need a tool whether it's a generic one or Lexus specific.

just borrow a strap wrench and get it loose for the first time. When you put the housing back on just hand tighten it so next time you do it you can just use your hands. I hand tighten mine for 40k miles every 4k miles and never had a leak whatsoever.

To the OP, first off there are many many threads on this. Below are just 2 of them.

A strap wrench may work, but it is not the proper tool. See threads above. And, you never never tighten an oil filter with a wrench, you always hand tighten them, then you use a wrench for the next oil change to get it off. If you tighten it so loosely that you can remove it with your hands on the next oil change, it's too loose and too cool. An oil change should always be done on a warm engine making the filter assembly too warm to touch.

I got the OEM one as well pretty cheap off another forum member when I first got the car. 1000X better than the cheap autozone ones. If you do your own changes its worth it to get a good one in the beginning.
