Just drive it bro the drive isn't bad. Couple months ago I drove from Fairfield to downtown la picked up my uncle and straight back. Real chill drive on cruise control the whole way
Well, if you tow the car in neutral and your towing in a manner where all 4 wheels or just the rear wheels are down, it will still count the miles on the odometer. Pretty sure that's what he was asking about lol. That or he meant does it affect the gas mileage of the Uhaul, which it will lol.
Since the Lexus uses an electronic setup (as do all cars nowadays), it would actually only count up if the car was on while doing the towing. If not, it wouldn't raise the mileage. Either way though, the IS should not be towed with the wheels on the ground (rear for RWD, all for AWD) unless it's a manual transmission model, as there is no fluid being pumped in the transmission without the engine running in automatic models.
It would need to be towed on a flatbed or similar, which of course would also not affect the mileage.
Ok the consensus seems to be drive the car but from reading the responses, it seems like the part where I'm renting a uhaul to move my stuff is missed. Whether I drive it or not, I'm still renting a u-haul truck regardless. The only way I can drive it is if my friend comes with me and one of us drives the uhaul.. otherwise i'd have to fly back down to drive my car up on a separate trip if i don't tow it.
So it's either:
a) One person drive uhaul and one person drive my car at same time if my friend comes
b) drive uhaul and tow car if my friend doesn't come
c) drive uhaul up and then fly back down and drive my car up on separate trip.
OR
d) Rent a big sized U-Haul which you can drive your Lexus into it.
Not that bad of a drive. I've driven from SJ to Irvine and back in one day before. Just yesterday, I did a SJ to Stockton to Bakersfield, then back to SJ. Drive it! If your buddy cant come with you, then tow it on a flatbed.

Kinda has to be lol. Even if you towed the car, the gas mileage of the U-Haul will drop significantly too...plus you'd have to pay for the towing trailer. We got the Largest one last time, got something like 4-5 mpg fully loaded -_-
Also, remember to list your buddy as a driver with U-Haul if he drives the U-Haul
