Default moving to a different city 500 miles away.. drive or tow?

Moving from San Diego to the Bay Area.. Will be renting a U-Haul to move my stuff. A friend might be coming along so should I drive my car and follow the U-haul or tow it? Does my mileage go up if it's towed?

Why would you tow it for 500 miles? Highway 5 is a very smooth drive. They recently repaved it. No more pot holes..

Tow the car. It'll be cheaper.

It depends.

Figure 1.5 tanks of gas to drive car 500 miles...that's about $100 in gas.

If you have a U-Haul truck, find out how much more they charge too attach a 4 wheel trailer to the U-Haul truck. That would be the trailer that you drive the car onto and all 4 wheels of your car are on the trailer. Don't use the 2 wheel trailer (where 2 wheels of your car are still on the road). If its not that much more than $100, might be worth it to just tow it. But remember towing the car will also reduce the already crappy gas mileage of the U-Haul truck. Also if you don't feel comfortable driving a truck with a trailer, just drive the car.

Honestly, for 500 miles, i'd just get some of that blue painters tape, tape up the front end of your car to help prevent rock chips, and drive it the 500 miles.

I love road trips just got my car back and I'm getting ready to tackle a trip from Colorado to Oregon about 1100 Miles. If it were me I'd drive it but just my opinion.

Drive it. 500 miles isn't even very much, plus it's not a bad drive. Also unless it's a manual transmission model, you shouldn't tow it with the rear wheels on the ground.
