Default Gas Flap Missing...

So the other day I willing filling up my car and I noticed before putting in the gas nozzle that the flap that usually covers the gas hole is missing??

At first I thought maybe it will come back after the fill up but it didn't. I was a little occupied at the time so I didn't think too much into it — now my check engine light is on with "VSC off" so I am assuming it has something to do with with that flap now being gone as I always tighten my gas cap 'till one click..

I'm wondering if the flap broke off and fell or if it hasn't returned to it's original position..

Anyways I'd like to know if this is something I seriously need to bring it Lexus to have a look at or what. I am quite sad because it's only been 6 months out of my warranty now so it would suck if this is going to be costly.

Anyone have any thoughts or experiences about this?

Are you sure there is suppose to be a flap which covers the hole? From what I know it doesn't need and I never seen it on my own IS.

I know back in the day, older cars had the the metal flap that covers the hole (ie. 99 Camry).

... now you are making me doubt myself lol. I am quite positive there's a thin metal flap that covers the hole like a mini door until you push it through with a gas nozzle — and it returns obviously after you pull the gas nozzle out.

Am I crazy here or was there never a flap ???? :s

you should tighten it more than 1 click. ive done that before too and ive gotten the VSC light because of the gas cap. i started to make sure it clicked 3 times and never had a problem since.

Well that's what I actually meant, because it's like a bunch of mini clicks. I know I tighten it enough because this happened to me before where I didn't click it enough so I always double check.

ALSO I found another thread with someone claiming they lost their flap too. Granted I don't know if it's a 2IS but I may not be only one who's crazy? lol

^^^

I agree...

Never seen one since when I bought my car brand new.

Daganl, perhaps your gas cap as a leak or is malfunctioning. For the comment on more than one clicks, the 2IS only allows you to tighten your gas cap until it clicks once. You can attempt to turn it a few more times, but I doubt it'll do anything since the click kicks in when you reach the stopper.

I'd like to hear from some 2006 owners.. It may be possible that they removed this in the later years because of problems like this?

Part number for the filler neck never changed between years. All 2IS should be the same.

'06 IS350...no flap here.

My '92 and '95 Civics have trap-doors though.
