I'm writing this in regards to my wife's 06' 250 with 94K miles. Of course as a typical woman, she remembers that a few weeks ago her VSC light cam on and the car stalled and just rolled. It started right back up though. How she forgot to mention this right away is beyond me. Anyway, I observed the same thing happen yesterday as she was backing out of the driveway.
The car seems to be running fine, but her mpg seem to be down also. She's only averaging 21 in the city while my 08' IS350 is getting 23 in the city. I also hear and sort of grinding sound on startup, which resolves immediately.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Stalling and rolling: possibly the carbon build-up TSIB:
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...d-threads.html
Grinding sound on startup: definitely the cam gear TSIB:
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...d-threads.html
This thread gives a summary of each under "Common Issues":
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...e-threads.html
As you're out of all warranties, fixing these items are quite expensive out of pocket (cam gear repair is $1600). I do know that the cam gear grinding issue has no affect on the operation/driveability of the car, it's more of a nuisance. Can't speak to the long term/operating affects of the carbon build-up.
Did you try getting the CEL codes read? Get an OBDII scanner or go to your local Autozone/independent shop and get them to read the codes for you, might help us diagnose.

also springs are bad in 06 is250. might be a recall on them one day. Check if car also consumes any oil. Call 1800 25 lexus and they should warranty your engine as long as you think its defective and heard its common and own more then one lexus. Or ask to speak to district manager

Wow that thread is 33 pages long! It sounds like the carbon buildup. Any ideas on how much this will cost to get fixed from the dealer? I'm very iffy about seamfoaming the thing.

I think Technical Information Service Bulletin? Understand though, that jsut because there's a tsb on an issue doesnt require lexus to fix it. A tsb is just a set of instructions from the manufacturer on how to fix an issue. Its not a recall or a warranty.

The distinctions are:
Recalls are always free regardless of warranty status as long as the recall is valid.
compared to:
TSIBs are only free under the relevant warranty period.
and
Recalls are done to any car the recall applies do (usually a year/vin range)... that is you can have the valve spring recall, for example, done if your car is covered by the recall, regardless of if you've actually had any problem with the valve springs...
compared to:
TSIBs are only required to be done if the specific vehicle in question exhibits the specific issue described... (ie if the dealer can't reproduce the cam gear rattle they're not required to apply the relevant TSIB even if you're under warranty)... sometimes the dealer will 'take your word for it' on TSIBs, but they're not obligated to.
