Maybe you havent noticed that there are no High reving 4cyl Lexus'..why?? because there is no market for it. People looking to buy a Lexus arent looking for a "High reving 4cyl" they are looking for a LUXURY CAR... whats luxury about a High reving 4cyl??? NOTHING!!
IMO the 250 is a waste of time, if one was for fuel economy they should have used the diesel they use in europe.

i wasn't in the market for the 350 then, i came from an Evo X, if i need the speed i'd stick with the Evo. i was looking for a sporty, reliable and gas saver commute car and the choices were between the TSX and IS250. IS250 won due to its rwd and looks nicer than the TSX. TSX is not faster than the 250, but it just feels faster, the motor is more eager to rev and the 2.5 V6.
Agree...

I disagree about the 250 being a waste of time, they must be doing something right because they are selling a heck of a lot of them. Some of us while we might like to have the 350 can't quite afford the price difference and the 250 is more than adequate for the type of driving we do. It is a smooth and nice car to drive and it looks good. I would have shied away had it been a diesel, I have no experience with them and around here diesel pumps at gas stations are rare compared to gas. Not arguing but giving you an IS250 drivers perspective.

I only bought my 250 for something that was comparable to my 99 Toyota Solara Camry V6 which had similar HP (3.0L V6 200 HP). It was a good enough for me and gained better fuel economy than the other car.
I didn't consider the 350 since I do not need 300 HP even thou it is something to have. Even tried the current Camry which has about 268 HP, but still don't need the extra power either.
About disel, I'm not too sure, I remember reading some threads that there were some issues with the engines.

The HS250h is a 4-cylinder.
The IS200d/220d (the diesel in Europe) is a 4-cylinder.
4-cylinder Lexus models exist. They didn't several years ago, but they do now.
If I could have gotten an IS350 with a manual, I would have coughed up the extra dollars to make it happen instead of getting the IS250. My IS250 doesn't even get great fuel mileage, since it's a manual it's rated the same as the IS350 basically, with over 100hp less.
Still, I, like many other people, didn't buy the car to be a speed rocket. There are many other cars for less money that are faster than the IS250. I wanted the overall package, and it has enough power for my driving. Doesn't mean I wouldn't like to have more power though. I'd love to do a 2GR-GSE swap down the road.

I understand but the ONLY reason to buy a 250 is because its slightly cheaper PERIOD. No one would pick the 250 over the 350 if both were the same price. The difference in fuel economy is negligable and the performance is well... a joke, my point was if you are gonna go slow you might as well get 40-45MPG.

Not sure what you are getting at with the Corvette comment are you saying they shouldn't build the IS250?
All of the 250 bashing on these boards gets really old.

The 250 offers barely any MPG increase over the 350, so it's hard to justify buying one aside from budget needs. However, had Lexus made the 250 a turbo 6, then that's really the only IS they'd need to make, aside from the IS-F.
Personally, I think the 250's with a catback sound better than 350's w/CB, but then again, I'm somewhat turned off by the NASCAR-ish 5.0 in the IS-F as well. I would much rather they had used a hi-rev version of their 4.3 or 4.6 V8. Big displacement, low rev motors bore me; I'd rather have at least 7000+ RPM to work with.
One of the best new motors out there is the 3.8L turbo V8 in the new McLaren; a small turbo V6 in a Lexus would be siiick.
