Default wiring guru's please chime in on getting puddle lights to stay on

I'd like to get my puddle lights and my soon to be 2011 headlights LED to stay on AFTER I turn the car off.
Much like the headlights do if it's night time and you have them on auto. After so many seconds the headlights turn off.
How can I wire up my puddle lights to stay on after I have shut the car off?
I'm thinking of this:
Find puddle lights power wire (red I'm betting)
Once I verify it is indeed the puddle lights actual power wire with a multimeter,
cut the wire. Soder a copper wire to that wire I just cut and then run the new power wire I just sodered all the way to the wire that controls the overhead dome lights... As those seem to stay on for 30 seconds after the car is off (Unless of course I press the lock button on my keyfob)

Lastly, with the LED power wire of the 2011 headlights I not only wire them to a power source so they always come on when the car is on but I could also run the same config I typed out about to the puddle lights wire which will be getting power from the dome lights and in theory they should also send power to the LED headlights....
Is my assumption safe to assume?
Any other suggestions?
