Default What to do? Just bought a 11 IS250, but I might move to NYC for a new job

First time posting. 3 weeks ago I bought a fully loaded IS250, but now I have a good job offer in NYC. The offer came out of no where and this is all happening really fast. They want me to relocate from LA to NYC in 3 weeks. So my dilemma is should I keep the car and make the payments or sell it for a lost? I'll most likely be in NYC for 2 years and i'll move back to LA. I have about 780 miles on the car. Any advice?

Oh, that's a tough one...keeping a car in NYC is expensive, right? and you probably don't need it if you live in the city anyway...how much is your payment+insurance? if it's low, like below $400 or $500 with insurance...I would keep it. If it's higher, than sell it while it's still good.

or keep paying for it while you try and private sell that thing...good luck

Store it for the 2 years or sell it.
If you're going to live in NYC,the parking costs will be high.Living in the NYC suburbs, the RWD won't be very good in winter.
I live in the NYC metro area and we usually don't get much snow but the last two years we did get more than usual. So you just never know.

Although my buddy here Koz has a IS350 he has used to commute 10 miles each way to work the last 3 years and says the IS isn't bad in snow.I'll never know.My IS350 will never see snow.

I bought my 06 IS 350 from a man in NYC, 3 months ago and he had it stored in a parking structure year round for 300-350(?)$ per month. He said he had a really good deal, but on the downside the car did get a lot of scratches in the parking lot. IF you keep it, you will have an extremely low mileage IS for the year. I bought mine 5 years old with 18k.

hmmm... if you're going to live in the city, you may want to keep the car in a garage, if you choose to keep it with you in NYC; ive seen plenty of nice cars parked on the streets of NYC and they get treated awful. with that said, i believe it is expensive to keep the car garaged within NYC. NYC folks usually cab it or take the MTA soo i think you should sell the car... UNLESS your job offers great pay where you can have your cake and eat it too!

"Fully loaded" is a relative term these days.
I'd take it to NY and use it. Selling it now or storing it would not payoff financially.
Good luck and congrats on the job!

i'de say bring it to ny and get a place in brooklyn or queens and take the train to work. for the price of an apartment in manhattan in a decent area you can afford the car, the train, and rent.

I would try to sell it, save those money and get 2013 IS. But that's a tough one, good luck on your choices.

This^^ if you really like the car. I live in queens now (brooklyn before) and trust me you want to garage that thing or stock up on color matched bumpers/put spikes on your car or something. Borough prices are around $200-ish per month on the cheap side in my experience (I pay $195 right now & park in my building's garage). In manhattan you'll pay a hefty premium for a garage and good luck finding a place where you can park it yourself and can stay away from hundreds of other anonymous potential hit-n-run mobiles. You definitely don't need a car even in brooklyn & queens but it's a lot cheaper than manhattan.

On the upside if you can care for it, it's definitely nice to have a car in NY because there are lots of great places to go outside of the city center (I'm thinking long island & hiking in the palisades for starters) and hell you'll make some friends offering rides. Plus it's always fun to go jay-walker bowlin'

If none of that concerns you and you can swing a pad with garage in manhattan then HIGH 5 & congrats - lemme know if your associates are looking for another go getter! Overall I like having a car here.
Oh ps check insurance rates when you plan your move. the 11375 area code vs the 11222 is majorly expensive for example and I found out by trial & error.

IMHO no. Once it leaves the lot, no matter what it is, depreciation hits it like a ton of bricks. Prolly closer to $35K if that

I was just talking to a guy who lives in Manhattan and I asked him what he drove. He said he walks and takes the subway, because a car is too much of a hassle in NYC

If i were you i would sell it. I go to school in NYC and the way cars are treated over there is pretty scary. I hate leaving my car on a street, i seriously cant stop worrying about it. But if you live in brooklyn or queens and have your own garage, then you'll be fine
