Default clunking noise

My 2006 IS 350 has been making a weird clunk noise when i go around turns when the car just turns on (it seems). It seems to be coming from the front passenger wheel area, and I do not believe it has anything to do with my breaks. Does anyone have any idea? It is very hard to describe, but basically, there is a clunk noise that lasts about a second, but is consistent every time the car is just fired up and moving. From what I have read about the cam gear, I doubt it is that?

On two other side notes, would I be notified first if I need to get my valve springs recalled, or should I ask the dealer? Also, I assume there are many threads on this but would a 275 width for my rear tires be too much? I have 225's in the front and I live in Michigan so the winter will be bad enough, is this a bad idea?

Search CL for "clunking" both under the general forum and Suspension sub-forum, I have seen quite a few threads that describe the exact symptoms you have.

Whatever it is, it is totally unrelated to the cam gear TSIB. The cam gear TSIB fixes an issue that causes a 1-2 second grinding noise when you first start up the car (and occasionally when you're driving, but this is rare). Yours is an issue with brakes, suspension, or wheels in the front passenger wheel area.

As far as valve springs, I thought all '06-'08 IS350s were recalled for this, but maybe it wasn't all VIN numbers. In any case, you can just stop by any Lexus (or likely Toyota as well) dealer and ask to run your VIN to see if there are any open recalls. The valve spring recall I believe occurred about a year ago (my car's recall was done last fall), so if your car is part of the recall and you haven't received a notice by now, I'd be surprised.

I found out that after I changed my brake pads, the sound went away. This is weird since the noise was only at slow speeds and on certain turns. But somehow, the noise is gone.
