Ok this will be my last post... As unlike others on CL, I just post info for YOUR INFORMATIONAL BENIFIT..... So all those haters can ignore this post!
You just spent 30K+ on a NEW LEXUS... Are you really trying to save $30-$40bucks on a 1,000 mile oil change?
Here is a blackstone report describing exactly what I mentioned!
Ok so everyone knows that metal shavings are not preferred in your oil... If they were, people would add them. In fact they can be quite damaging to your seals, and any moving part they come in contact with...gets scored up by the chunks. KNOWING THAT why would you try to save 40 bucks.... really?
I guess its a personal Prefrence! But IN MY OPINION and IN MY CARS... Im happy to remove the shavings as soon as possible! DONT BE CHEAP, or buy a Corolla!

I changed the oil yesterday with 360 miles on it.
I wasn't going to go 5K with oil and filter that was sitting in the engine for over 1.5 years.
Heck,I would have changed the factory fill at under 1500 miles anyway.
As far as the 1000 mile free check goes...
I never go unless I have a problem or want a setting changed.

Did you actually read that report?
because it's from a car after a 14,000 mile oil change.
Even Blackstone themselves said a 3-5 thousand mile change would've been just fine as far as break-in goes. (and indeed, folks who've posted 5,000 up to even 10,000 mile changes on the original oil were just fine as well, with blackstone not recommending shorter intervals at all, even during factory break in).
So what do you know that the people who analyze oil for a living (and don't suggest this 100 mile change) don't know?
Since the factory fill is not synthetic (on pre 2011s) I'd certainly never suggest running 14k on it, no matter how many times it had already been changed in the past. (the low TBN is a dead giveaway it was run too long, regardless of being break-in oil or not)....especially without a filter change.
10k seems about the upper limit on conventional oil in the motor to have a good UOA... and the filter is probably done by then as well. A good synthetic could certainly go longer comfortably (maybe 15k for mobil 1, 20-25k for amsoil), but you'd still want to change the filter, probably every 7500 miles or so, 10k tops.
Believe me, I've helped build engines, and when I run a built older engine that has been machines I sure do change the oil very very quickly... This is not that though.
if you can cite any 2IS engine, ever, having a problem from running 5-10k miles on the factory fill, please do.
