I have a non navi IS. im a 21 Y.o. college student and i pay for my car so i cant afford to drop 1400 on a unit. Instead im going to buy an Ipad with a mount. Ive never been big on Ipads because they are just big ipods and offer less functionality than laptops but in a car i think it large screen comes in handy. I can use it for GPS with Navigon and just teathering off of my iphone4. Play music and what ever kind of other entertainment off of it easily. It has a nice clean design and the touch screen that is easily navigated without requiring too much attention. It can also stream off of Pandora and make video calls using tango or oovoo. Im excited to do this and the ipads clean design i believe will look awesome in the IS. Let me know what you guys think. Im sure other people have done this since they sell various mounts on ebay.

If you haven;t purchased an iPad yet. Get the 3g version without data if you can't/dont want pay for it. The 3g comes with a GPS antenna so you wont have to tether. I'm currently running a Navigon on a 3g without Data plan. I haven't found a mount I liked yet so I have my iPad mounted to the Center Console w 2 strips of velcro. It makes removal very easy. The only downside is if you velcro it on like I did, it blocks the radio and hvac controls.

I was going to do a custom iPad installation in my 02 ES300 but then opted for a Pioneer z130bt navi unit.
Check these guys out. They do some very cool iPad installs, http://www.soundmancaraudio.com/home...ad-integration .

I have a 10" tablet in my car for a similar purpose - I have the nav screen but keep the tablet for music (non-streaming)/video/games for passengers but a 3g would certainly work well for all that plus navigation. Its kind of nie to have also for if I am parked and waiting for this or that I have games and/or movies right there
