Default Help... Car keeps overheating!!!!!!

Ok so I've been having this problem for awhile now. When I'm just parked with the AC on it starts to overheat. The temp outside is hot but not scolding hot. So I'm wondering if it's the thermometer, but if it were then wouldn't it get hot even when driving? Can anyone give me some advice on what to check or do. Thanks.

First thing I would check are the fans that blow air over the radiator and condensing coils to insure that they are running. When the car is in motion, air naturally flows through the radiator grill and over these, but there is nothing but those fans to provide airflow when you are stopped.

Yes your fans are working, but that doesn't mean they are working correctly. Sometimes when three go bad there just not spinning fast enough. Thus not blowing enough air threw the radiator. Thie will cause you to over heat.

Let me ask you guys, should I change the thermostat and go with aftermarket fans? Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks again.

If there is then does that mean the water pump is messed up cause I've seen that already... My GF was in the car waiting for me one day and the car started to overheat so she just turned the car off, all kinds of pink liquid looked like it overflowed through the reservoir and so I replaced with antifreeze. Ever since then it over heats when parked, not all the time just some times.

If there is overflow, it doesnt mean your waterpump is broken. If your fan is all working thats fine, maybe you have to change your thermostat, but not the ffail one that constantly open, get the stock thermostat. You will have a problem if you get that fail one especially during the winter time.

I have, on my E55, and I just read a recent thread about a CL member whose 2IS thermostat failed.

Check the temperature of upper and lower radiator hose. If one is really hot and the other is warm the water is not circulating. The water pump is broken or the thermostat stuck close. Also, pressure test your radiator cap. Compare the fan speed with other IS to see if there's a difference.

Thanks guys for all the input. Iv decided to go ahead and order a water pump and thermostat due to the year of my car. I feel that it's probably time to replace it.
