Has any1 on here tinted their own windows? Just wonder and if so where did you get everything to do it yourself?!

Yikes, this is something I considered for all of 3 seconds before seeing what it involved and how inexpensive it is to tint a car. There are few things I could do myself that I would rather pay someone to do for me, as I'm very frugal. However, a tint job is one of those things. There are plenty of great places in my area that will tint your whole car ex-windshield for $150-200. This in my opinion is quite inexpensive for what you're getting. I also need only look at tint jobs gone wrong (bubbling..) to know how important it is to have an experienced person do it.

Yeah you want to have someone with experience do it. It can come out great at the moment you do it and bam! a month later you got bubbles

The other consideration is that most shops will warranty their work, sometimes for a lifetime. If you do it yourself and perhaps save a few dollars (considering the equipment, materials, and opportunity cost of your time, you probably won't save a lot vs. $150-200), this will all be for naught if you get bubbling later and have to redo it, whereas if a shop did it the problem would be covered by warranty.

Thats true, though my though i have done a lot of research on it. I know that bubbling occurs only if you do not constantly spray the glass while you are applying the film. Idk it just seems like a lot cheaper to diy.

I watched a crap load of YouTube videos cause I was too cheap to spend $200 on some film that seemed so easy to apply. All I could say in the end is if you never had any experience, you're better off going to a pro unless you can deal with some imperfections on your tint.

I thought it was going to be easy but I screwed up two windows on my first tint kit. I bought a second kit, removed all the tints I did, but messed up two different windows this time. Another kit, I screwed up the back window. Fourth kit, came out very good, but just some tiny air bubbles you must be against the window to see, didn't really care but I wanted it perfect. For now, I seriously quit and will pay up for a pro to do it. All in all, I spent almost $160 in tint and tools when for an extra $40 I could have it done right already.

Now I did find out, the IS is one of the tougher cars to tint since the windows are so curved, the weatherstripping is tight, dust gets trapped in the gaskets easily, and the back window is cramped to go back there. If you can deal with some trapped dust or a few imperfections in your tint, you can go ahead and do it for $30. If not, pay more for a pro.

Advice, if you wanna try your hand at a DIY tinting job did it first on another. Either a secondary vehicle or a friends car. Alot of trial and error; if you don't have patience, it's not for you.

don't waste your time or money. You gotta be GOOD to make it look perfect. You own a Lexus, not a Hyundai...pay the $200.

I'd done it on my daily maxima....
it turned out with no experience, bubbles are hard to avoid
even with solution sprays....
and with ebay films... they sucked most of the time compared to a shop with quality films..

I gave up after i finished rear passenger windows... rear view mirror is way more harder than other windows

Do it once and do it right

I've done it a long time ago but never will again. The only way to get really good at tinting is by doing it. Most people don't get the opportunity to practice enough to get good at it.
