Are LED DRL's legal?
Specifically these..

Or should I spend the extra money and buy the HID kit to replace my fogs?

Matches the 4300K HIDs well but a wee bit brighter but much better than the yellow stock bulbs.
I don't think you can use those type of LEDs as a DRL.9005 is the high beam/DRL number.

In Texas I don't know about the legality of the lights themselves but all the newer cars like the 2011 lights and audis use LED DRLs , but without functioning brights a car will not pass inspection which may make them illegal

^This. It has nothing to do with the fact that your DRLs are now LEDs, there shouldn't be anything wrong with that (unless your state has particularly restrictive statutes on modifying OEM equipment, and DRLs could be construed as safety equipment). The legality comes into question because LED DRLs cause loss of high-beam functionality, and I do know for a fact that some states require high-beam functionality to pass inspection and therefore be registered. Check your state's statutes.

Legal or not it's different in every state.
In California it's illegal to just do any modifications to your lights, and it's even more legal if isn't the color temperature. But everyone and their grandmas have HID's in their cars now, nobody gives a crap anymore unless you are running some ridiculous lights that you can see from a mile away.

HID add on kits are illegal.
If the law is ever enforced,a lot of tickets and revenue will come in to towns and cities.
The same goes for tint darkness percentages.
No tint on side front windows is ok in NJ.

I like the look of the LEDs in the fogs.Matches my HIDs well.
The HIDs are fine and I use the brights if I need more lighting.
Plus,I drive in fog maybe twice a year if that.

Yeah the law will be different with each state. I haven't made the switch because feel like I need my brights so I can flash people with no lights on or the morons who drive with there brights on!
If you want to use your fogs as DRLs then you would have to do the independent fog light rewire and simply turn them on during the day, and i may be wrong but don't the JDM fogs with the LEDs function as DRLs?
