Default decklid assist ??

Are our trunks supposed to pop up a little on their own once the exterior button is pressed? I could have sworn mine went up a bit or had some assist when my car was newer, but now it stays down once popped and I do the whole lift myself. Just curious before I bring it up to the dealer.

On my 2007 IS350 which I bought with 56k miles, every time I press the trunk release button on the trunk exterior, it pops up but then I have to lift it myself. If there is some assist where it's supposed to raise itself upon the button being pressed, I'd like to know as well so I can take it in.

I think it is just designed to pop up just enough to clear the locking mechanism.

The trunk lid on our "06 IS350 has started to be hard to lift. It does not seem to be a friction issue, but rather something that balances the weight of the lid to make it feel lighter. I'm not sure if it is a counter weight, spring or pneumatic strut.

Is there something adjustable that I can work with or something I can replace so that my "wrist challenged" wife can get in the trunk easier?

Thank in advance for any help you can provide.

It maybe the support assembly wearing out since there is one on each side supporting the trunk.

I bought a 'new' '10 in August and the trunk just unlocks and pops up a bit and has to be lifted open.

That looks like the part I need. It feels the way my hatch did when it needed new support struts. They cost about $20 a piece. But Lexus, $136...

Anyone have quick directions on how to get to them?

If you are registered with Sewell (with CL info in it for discount), it is about $100.
