My 1st oil change is near. Is there anything besides good record keeping I need to do to make sure my warranty and extended warranty are covered without issue? I want to do my own oil changes.

No, there isn't. I'd just keep receipts of your purchased parts and fluids and potentially take a photo of the used parts/fluid next to the new stuff. I'd also note the mileage/date each time you change.
In any case, Lexus can't deny warranty coverage simply because you choose to do maintenance work yourself. They'd have to show that your shoddy or lack of upkeep contributed to a problem you're trying to get warranty coverage for. Furthermore, Lexus is not CSI and I highly doubt they would require detailed bookkeeping on all your maintenance performance.
I'm not sure if this is what he was referring to but CPO cars get their first oil change free. He might have thought your car was CPO.
After reading through some old threads, I found out that the 1000/5000 mile free service was for 2010 IS 250 and earlier years. My 2011 IS Convertible 250 uses synthetic oil
The 2011 IS 250 should be 5000/10000 mile free service because of the change to syntheis oil on the IS 250.
I called my Lexus dealer and they said my salesman made a mistake and I DO GET A FREE OIL CHANGE AT 10000 MILES. YAHOO!
