Also have an '08 with 20k miles. You are not doing anything bad by having low miles. Just warm it up and burn off the crud inside once in a while. Just think of how good your resale value will be.

I start mine once a week and when I do drive it (probably once a month), I keep it out for the entire day running errands and such. I am probably doing it wrong and hopefully everything will be okay. I've had it for 16 months and put on about 2,100 miles in that time.

Starting it once a week is probably not a good idea. You have to get the engine to normal temperature for at least 10-15 minutes driving to burn off the moisture in your oil and exhaust system. You would have to idle too long to burn that condensation off.
Better off just driving it once a month and taking a at least 20 mile drive.
Also a good idea to keep a Battery Tender on it to keep the battery fully charged if it's sitting like that.

Not a good idea... if you are just going to start it and not drive it. Especially in Michigan weather. No need to cause cold start wear, plus starting it once a week for 5 minutes isn't good for the oil because it will have moisture and turning the car on will just move the moisture to all parts of the engine and just sit there. You need to burn the moisture off.

Only start it when you need it, and make sure that it's a long drive.

X2. No need to cause extra wear.

I have a 07 IS350 with under 30k miles. I bought it brand new. Just like you do, I do not take my car to college. I make sure my gas tank is filled, use synthetic oil, and keep it in the garage.

Ahhh okay. Maybe I should just drive it more often. Thanks for the tip.

If you dont use synthetic oil, change the oil every 6 months.

how about the nav? I have been terrified that one day it may just quit working, especially since it will be sitting in the very cold weather that's approaching
