Will insurance cover flood damage if your car was lowered?

Had that happen to one of my cars before... went through a flood. they had to replace all the carpet and all. Water all the way up past my ankles, water gushing out the car as I opened the doors. Insurance covered it all ( Had FULL coverage with AAA ), they paid to have the car fully checked and engine to see if water damage in the engine. BTW my SE-R was dropped 3" from the ground.

As time passed by more and more crap started to happen to the car, more check engine lights, wires started to corrode and unexplainable stuff occurring with it. I just ended up trading it in as I didn't want to mess more with it or something acting up on it while driving and causing an accident.

First of all if your motor locked up from ingesting water then there is nothing to take apart. The mechanic can figure it out by trying to turn the crank by hand and showing your insurance adjuster. Also the most probably damage that the engine does have is you bent the rods as water does not compress. In my Honda days I saw this problem a lot with people running cold air intakes and in those case the rod would break and punch a whole through the block.

I forgot to mention one other thing that your mechanic can do and that is to take the spark plugs out and turn the motor if they motor does turn freely you might be in luck but you are still left with the issue of fried ecu's.

Mechanic should be pulling the plugs and taking a compression test. He should have immediately pulled the plugs and drained the oil anyway. Cylinders with bent rods will have lower compression. They will replace those rods and reassemble. Have them check stroke length as well as compression. Sometimes a cylinder with a bent rod will still fall under what is "acceptable" with compression and not knock but will have issues as the engines wears. I hydro locked a prelude and learned about this. Insurance covered it as an "act of god" because I was a 15 year client. Otherwise maybe collision will cover it, basically you hit something and messed it up.

I would not reuse a block that had a bent rod unless it was resleaved (least from my experience with hondas).
