Question Curbed, does it need a new tire?

Hi,

First time poster so hopefully I this is in the right place.

I let someone use my car today and they missed a curb in the parking structure and rashed 3/4th of lip of the rim and took a chunk out of the tire. I wasn't there so I'm not sure how fast it met the curb. Hopefully no alignment issues.

I'm thinking it might be cheaper to just replace the rim than to repair it.

As far as the tire with the chunk missing does it look like that needs replacement as well? They have 6 months (6,000mi) of wear and one AutoX. I intend to take the car the track at some point for HPDE (100mph+) so safety is of major concern. Since this is the rear axel I'll probably need to replace both at the same time right?

as long as ur not losing air pressure you'll be fine. just remember to keep am eye on it and check the rim for cracks. especially if your planning a road trip.

Looks more cosmetic than anything. Even if it was a bent steelie, as long as it's on the outside rim and doesn't go any further in it would be ok. (assuming no cracks)

Just get it rebalanced and you're good to go.

Should be no more than $150 to repair that rim, no way I would buy a new rim. Also the tire looks fine from that picture.

I know those Hankooks don't have reinforced sidewalls...but that little of a chunk shouldn't cause you any issues.
