Welcome to 2005. We've been doing this at our shop for awhile.
Never caught on though.

I actually don't know of many people/shops that do this but for whatever reason where i'm from it was never requested by clients. Thus never caught on.

There's a shop here in Atlanta that does it with everything from rims, guns, helmets, to playstation controllers. Like CCJ22 said, I haven't seen too many wheels that have had it done.

i've always thought this was a redneck gun thing but never thought of it for rims.

I've seen members do this with interior pieces and engine covers, but never thought about it's application on wheels. Not sure how well it would hold up but it's interesting...
