Honestly, just get the aftermarket HID kit. OEM ballasts are not cheap. Just get a quality HID kit and you should be good. There are plenty out there, just don't buy a cheap china-made kit from eBay and expect the ballasts to last

Check out the vendors section here, there are some vendors offering good deals on quality kits too

Cheaper is definitely the aftermarket kit. If you want the best output, Look into a retrofit.

I would buy an oem ballast and aftermarket bulbs if you want a diff color temp. Its costly for the oem ballast but from experience most aftermarket ballasts don't last long, and even worst they tend to make your headlights flicker.

OEM is not always the best in aftermarket applications. OE ballasts are designed specifically for an OE application where the ballasts are often mounted in areas that are protected from the elements. In aftermarket HID applications the ballasts are often exposed so they need to be completely water tight. XenonDepot HID ballasts are epoxy sealed and water tight to prevent any damage from moisture or water.

Hope this helps,

Steve

Which year/model car you have?

If you want a quality ballast and willing to spend the money, you can go with Philips. Nigel-JDMParts (forum vender) is selling them. I currently have one on the way and he will ship it to me once it arrives. I ordered the H11 version since my fog lights for the 11 car uses this type.

If you have a non-HID car, I would just go custom aftermarket. Do it right and retro in some projectors, add some LED accents, etc. It'll be cheaper than OEM, and if done right, better and different. My $0.02.
