Default ANYONE DONE TSB: Brief engine Knock/Rattle noise at cold startup

Hey guys going to Lexus of Omaha today to see if they will do the TSB: Brief engine Knock/Rattle noise at cold startup.

Has anyone done this/ Looks like a CAM replacement? Any problems afterwords? Maybe more vibration at idle?

Also what is the best way to approach this to the dealership? It should be covered by the PT Warranty? Thanks again

Please try searching.

This is the most common TSIB for the 2IS. There are tons of threads on it. Search for engine cranking or engine grinding startup or something similar and pages and pages of threads will come up.

Covered by powertrain warranty.

It's commonly called the cam gear TSIB, and it's described in the 2IS Buyers Guide thread.

I had this done on my 07 IS250 which I had on my AWD. Fixed this up on start up and once a while on engine shut down.

I need to visit the dealer since I got the start-up grind. However, will the dealer only fix the issue if they can replicate it or would I have to record a video of it happening? Or do they got to do both? The start-up grind happens really randomly. Sometimes, it does it every start-up or it may not do it for months.

^I believe the consenious is that they'll only do the repair if the issue can be reproduced while at the dealership. So unless you leave the car there for like 5 hrs or more to get a cold-start, it'll likely not happen. People have posted being successfully on recording a video of the noise upon startup and showing it to the dealership.

RAMAIR,

I don't think Calvin intended his posts to be "hateful"....especially since he was nice enough to give a few different search terms and even gave a specific thread to find it in.

Here's the master thread with LOADS of information: Engine cranking/startup noise
