Hi,
I have a 2006 IS350. Recently I had a red check light and had to drop my car off at a Lexus dealer to check out what's going on. After a couple days, I received a call and was told that one of the tire pressure sensor was bad. I then gave the okay to have it replaced. I paid about $600 for this.
After I picked up my car and was on my way to work, I noticed the nagivation rebooting itself on and on. I then called up that dealer and dropped my car off again for it to be checked out.
About a day later, I was told that some ICU for my NAV stopped functioning and that it costs roughly $2k to replace it.
I've been going back and forth with the service manager because he thinks I have to pay for it and that it's just a coincidence that it broke while it was being serviced for something else. I on the other hand insist that they have to cover that because something happened while it was being service.
Does anyone have some inputs for what I should do and how i should escalate this matter?
When the car gets serviced and diagnosed for failure isolation, do they touch the NAV?
I'm so frustrated.
Thanks very much for your inputs

Lexus of Stevens Creek, service center in Santa Clara, CA.
Thanks for all your inputs. I'll be more careful next time.
Does any of you know some good service place in that area?

Holy cow $600 for a TPMS sensor has to be one of the worst dealership rip-offs i've ever read about on this forum! However that issue in the past now so..
As far as your navigation goes, it's hard to prove that the navigation was broken while in the dealers hands at their fault. Some members here have had the navigation die on them, but its not a rebooting issue, its the touch screen going out and not allowing any functions to be accessed anymore. If you really insist on fighting the issue though, see how far you can get with the dealer, if you don't get a satisfactory response, call up Lexus Corporate and voice your disappointment there. Many times Lexus will cover part (or even all) of the cost of replacement as a gesture of good will even outside the warranty period.
Now that i think about it though...... if you paid $600 for a single TPMS with no problem, a shady dealership might even do something to your nav cuz there's a good chance you'll pay the $2k to fix it. Not saying that's what they did, but just a thought that came across my mind

They charged him $600 for a part that has a sticker price of $135.... (and can be had a decent bit cheaper than that shopping around).... that's beyond bad. That's to the point that even if it's "past" he ought be calling the manager of the dealership to call them out on it and ask him what they're going to do for him on the nav that worked when he brought it in.

Keep up up to date what Lexus of Stevens Creek has to say about their $600 charge. Are you sure that is the only service they did? If that is all they did then I will call them for you.

Before anyone plans to burn down the dealership, perhaps he can clarify what was actually replaced. Was it the sensor? Just one? Was it the TPMS computer? Was there diagnosis involved?
Post a picture of the final invoice so we can see what they actually did. Obviously $600 for a single TPMS sensor is ridiculous.
