i have it turned on and i know this because i see the green "P" next to a cone icon on my dash. i dont hear it and dont know where the car icon is located when backing up. i dont have the nav btw.

icon showing how close you are will be in the center display between the tach and speedo. it only comes on when you get close enough to activate sensor, and it will be a set of lines indicating ~ distance

So do you want to turn it off? Lower lefthand portion of the dash below the steering wheel is where you can toggle between the various settings.

if you have a navigation it will show in the window on the top right

Make sure you're in gear for the front sensors, and in reverse if you're trying to test the back sensors.
