Winter Wipers for NE
Hi All,
I live in Boston and I'm about due for a new set of wipers. Last year, I just got the OEM wiper blades replaced. I found that they started to streak pretty quickly and weren't all that great during the last winter.
Have any of you used the Bosch ICON wipers on your IS250s that live in a snowy area? How do they hold up? I don't mind going through a set of wipers a year as long as they are good for that year. My last wipers, like I said, started to streak after a couple of months.

There are wiper blades and then there are wiper inserts, at least for OEM. I haven't found a conceivable reason why you'd change OEM blades for $50-100 when you can just swap out the inserts for $13 - the inserts are the rubber strips that actually touch the windshield. Those are what are actually streaking. I'll let others chime in on good snow-weather wipers, but I personally would rather change inserts for $13 a few times than buy brand new unnecessary blades for $60.

From what I was advised, the wiper blades should be changed about every other season, therefore it would be twice a year.
If I recall it was after summer and the other is after winter. This way, after the extreme conditions, you will have a fresh set of blades because it during the extreme conditions, the blades life would drop.

Take a towel with some vinegar in it, then wipe the blades. Should take the streaking away. If not, just replace them

Any experience with the PIAA silicone blades? there's multiple PIAA options on tirerack.com but only one or two of them have refill options.
I'd like to hear more before I give any of them a shot. But for now, I think I'll just follow what GiantsFan is about to do:
I assume Sewell is the cheapest place to get OEM Windshield Wiper inserts?
Thanks for this. I'll start taking proper care of my wipers when they're replaced. The set I have on now came w/ my 08 IS 350 are still the original pair. The car's at 50k-ish miles and was bought almost 3 years ago. I don't think I'm going to be changing them twice a year though unless I really should.
