option 2:
front: Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3
rear: Yokohama W.drive
cost: 902 + $100 installation
You can also run with 225's on the back. I just had my Blizzak LM-60's mounted today on my stock rims and I'm running 225's all around. Bought my set from Tirerack and had them shipped to a local installer. Price was a couple hundred less than the price you posted.

lets drag race in the snow than! lol jk Kurt. I could probly run snow tires just fine, but the rather put money in my nissans gas tank for the winter than buy snow tires.

Snow tires aren't money lost though, it's time spent not wearing out your summer/all-season tires, and think of the money saved if you can even avoid a single minor accident due to sliding/not stopping in time.

Winter tires make most sense, and despite the upfront cost, in the end the overall cost is very low due to your other tires lasting you longer. If you keep the car long enough, that is.

did you get a discount or something? It's is cheaper if I go 225 all around but I want to stick w/ oem stagger size..

tirerack price:
225--$197 each
255--$243 each
58 shipping cost
total: $900+

A wide tire makes no sense if driving in snow. Your defeating part of the functionality in favor of looks. Why talk snow tires at all?

So instead of running stagger, you suggest running all same size? Is the traction better w/ all same size instead of stagger?

From what I read, thinner is better.

$197 each but my installer only charged $50 to dismount old tires, mount new ones, and balance.

If you have an extra set of rims, maybe, but I pay $80-100 twice a year for my seasonal changes between winter and summer tires (mounting and balancing) , which dramatically drives up the cost as compared to running the same tires until they wear out.

Narrow is better I run 225-45-18 on the oem setup. As far as cost of change over most places you buy the tire from will do free winter/summer change over for free. At least in may area they do as long as you own the tires.

Wouldn't it make more sense to spend 1-2 years worth of "tire swaps" on a set of cheap steel rims to hold snow tires?

Then you can run the "best" tires for all weather conditions all the time, rather than running mediocre all seasons year-round.

Unless the Nissan has snows you're getting inferior performance there too.

FWD/AWD on all-seasons will win a drag race in the snow versus RWD with snows.

It'll lose in handling and stopping though, which are a whole lot more important for safety.

Tires>Drivetrain.

Yes if you don't have a second set of wheels, mounting and balancing it every time can add up in a hurry, about to the amount of a second set of wheels.

So get a second set of wheels! Haha.

A thinner tire is always preferable for snow and ice. Wider tends to slide across the surface rather than bite into it.
I put Blizzak WS70 (225/17s) mounted, balanced, tax total out the door at my local Firestone for $789.74
Again they matched Tire Racks "shipped" price. I paid tax and bought local because it helps my community.

Instead of making a new thread I was wondering if somebody can help here. I'm trying to get winter tires for my car and tirerack only has the blizzaks listed for winter tires, is there really a difference between the blizzak lm-60 and lm-60 RFT? The price difference is a little bit higher for RFT but wasn't sure if it was worth it. Also is there any other better sites to buy winter tires from? I want something good with a reasonable price. Thank you for any kind of help.
