I thought that the carbon build-up was only for the 250s.

I wonder if this could have been prevented by/could be fixed by any of the bazillion recalls on our engines?

Hopefully it's just as simple as new plugs, though.

the dealer said the same thing that the car has been plagued with so many recalls. i am definitely hoping, just what a college student needs is a huge maintenance bill

FYI, recalls are free to fix. Though most of them on the 350 have actually been very minor (or completely unneeded like the gas pedal one)... the valve spring one is the only one I'd call major at all (and again- it's a free repair, even outside of warranty)

Yeah, that's the TSIB for the rattle noise on startup, which has nothing to do with "cheap fuel" it has to do with the exact repair you posted...

Well, the actual problem is not the recall. I have done every recall already. I am afraid that its going to be something really serious that I will need to shell out cash for. They are just fixing the startup grind tsib, the guy just told me no need to replicate it, he knows the problem. I find it weird that no one has ran into a similar problem. The tech told me that when the engine light is on it turns the traction control light. anyone with an engine light also have the traction control light?

Trac light always comes on with a CEL being thrown. IS300's do it to and it is annoying because it just sits there and blinks at you... its like... "LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME!!!!! AHHHHHH!!"

Change your spark plugs and plug wires. Once completed, your problem will be solved including the VSC light which pops on with most Jap cars.

My old is 300 had an engine light on for a bad o2 sensor for 40k and the traction control light never came on. but this one is on permanently.

Thank you all for the information.

I plan on waiting to see what the dealer says since they are not charging me for the service. I will gladly change the sparkplugs myself.

Dang, that's pretty cool your TRAC light never came on! My crap happened so much from my charcoal canister, my CATS, my O2's, my gas cap, and my MAF senor throwing both CEL & TRAC that I bought my own cheap $80 reader! Maybe it was the difference in years as mine was an '03. You had the '01 didn't you?

Let us know what the stealership says.. cross your fingers

carbon build up is my guess. It is covered under warranty. Mine did that. It would idle badly and almost die at the light. In the end, the check engine light came on and stayed on. Lexus fixed it under warranty.

Gotta LOOOVE free gas! Just don't get any in your mouth, yucky yuck

The 99-00 Altezza and '01 IS were different than the 02-05 IS. Bumpers, parts, other oddities. That explains the TRAC light. No matter what though, I am sure Lexus will help you out especially since you have pretty much no miles on your car. If they are jerks, then just kick and scream till you get your way! That ALWAYS works

I thought 350's didn't have a carbon build up issue due to the fact that it has both direct and port injectors?
