i was wondering if my 2011 navigation system should be able to play DVDs'? i read the manual and it states that the car should be stopped and parking brake applied which i have done but still cant get the system to play DVDs'. i have tried several and all i get is a "check disc" message on the screen. any advice?

Can the lower ML disc unit portion simply be added onto a NAV equipped non-ML 2IS?

How can you get a navigation system without ML. As far as I know , only the non-navigation units don't have the ML. But recently I saw a 2011 IS 250 with navigation but no ML written as shown in the picture above. Now why would Lexus do that.

As far as i know in the US, there's a Navigation package and a Nav+ML package. My 09 had Nav but no ML, so it's not something new.

You are mistaken. You most definitely can get navigation without Mark Levinson in North America, and from what I can see on lexus.kw, in Kuwait too.

In the us you can do nav without ml and nav with.

What makes things confucing is that in the owners manuel it never talks about needing the ML unit.

You could even do ML without nav (at least for 06-09, I think they dropped this option for '10 or '11)

So if I was to get the ML lower portion would it be plug and play? Minus the fact of missing a speaker and not having the ML amp?

Ok first of all till early 2011 we had only IS 300's which were in only 2 variants, one with out NAV and ML and another with NAV and ML. Now after mid 2011 they have started offering IS 250 also in Kuwait which as per my view at the dealership has 3 variants of IS 250's one without NAV nor ML , one with NAV but no ML like in your markets and one with NAV and ML.
