I like the new interface on the new facelifted IS. Just wondering, if upgrading to the latest dvd's will change the interface or is the interface not included in the DVD is that just data files?

If you have the old interface, then the DVD will only update the maps and points of interests. To update the interface, you'd have to replace the nav unit to a 2010 and newer one I think.

DVD base is GEN 5 NAV, 2010+ is GEN 6 which is HD based. They are probably not compatible as a simple swap since GEN 6 does have new features such as NavTraffic, Stocks, Sports, Weather and Lexus Insider and some others if I am correct.

Also remember the Gen 6 system is Hard drive based, not DVD based--it is a whole different unit with new hardware.

On a side note,...are the Gen6 NAV units auto updated,...or do they require a dealer visit?

Dealer visit- update resides on a one-time-use USB key supposedly... (you might be able to use said key yourself I suppose, not sure of the process)
