I work as Lexus TEch and Ive seen low mile newer Lexus has a Water pump Issue... Even the front cover issue like oil leak... I was stunned and couldnt believe it because I thought Toyota and LExus parts are longer and reliable but no.. I told my family not to buy newer lexus because they always break.. I rather buy older Lexus.. I shouldnt buy a BRand new IS250 but oh well I learn my lesson.. I wish I buy another IS300 because they are stronger and parts are great reliable then new IsX50... U know what make me surprise, Ive seen few IS300 come over to repair like doing 90K svc.. Wow!!!

The previous owner of my 350 had the water pump replaced around 27k miles. Either the seal or the pump itself from the factory isn't that great.

Btw, what 335 cost $9000 more than a IS350? MSRP vs MSRP the 2012 335 cost $42,050 vs 2012 IS350 40,020.
First- nobody pays MSRP.

Second, you have to add many thousands in options to get the BMW similarly equipped.

Here is my original price compare from Feb 2010 though-

Oh, wait, I forgot to add the automatic and the sport steering wheel with paddle shifters... that's another ~$1400...

So $42,850 INVOICE for the BMW... the Lexus is $33,833. About $9000 more for the BMW.

It gets worse if you want climate seats... about $500 for just heated on the BMW... $236 for heated and vented on the lexus... (and woodgrain too, which BMW wants more for).

Honestly. price wise the IS-F is a lot better comparison... option a 335i similarly to a base IS-F and your price is closer than a 335i and a 350.

Even worse for BMW- a 328, which is dog slow in comparison to an IS350, was about 3 grand more if you give them similar options/equipment when I ran those #s

Edit- just went to check on an updated price compare:

Base 328 invoice price-$31,830
Equipped like a base model IS350- $38485 (requires automatic, paddle shifters, sat radio, ipod adapter, heated front seats, premium package, and convience package.... no vented seats but oh well.. DOES give you park assist though.

335i base model invoice: $38685
Optioned like a base 350- $44385

Anyway... base model IS350- $35748 invoice... add park assist and you get: $37,053

So that's $1632 less than a similarly optioned BMW 328.

That's embarrassing for BMW in my book.

It's also $7332 less than the 335i with similar options (though the interior is still crappier on the BMW, and no vented seats)

Big difference seems to be the automatic is now a "free" option from when I last ran the #s.

Still, it shows you how they can afford to give you free oil changes when they get over 7 grand more for the car.

All #s in the updated compare are 2011 models, since edmunds.com doesn't have 2012 invoice pricing info on the BMW 3 sedan yet

Seriously, relax. We don't have to start a war because I jokingly said BMW offers free 4 year maintenance.

I don't understand why you are comparing invoice prices? People do pay MSRP for their cars and not much people can get invoice prices. It usually depends on the area and when you are purchasing. It is a huge YMMV.

I just equipped a 2012 335i vs a 2012 IS350. I have no idea how you got $9000.

I just equipped a 335 with anti-theft alarm system (400), heated front seats (500), keyless entry (500) to make it equal to a standard IS350. It is only about ~$4000 more expensive than the IS350.

I don't see how BMW have crappy interiors? Their seats are just a little bit more stiffer because they are sportier than Lexus. Doesn't necessarily mean they have crappy interiors..

I agree. I'm a tech at toyota, and i've seen cars w/ only 15k miles and the steering rack leaks, or water pump, or something news to be changed out. It's just if you are unlucky enough to get handed the lemon.

All service techs do is see problems all day long... *it's their job.* So naturally, they will be the first ones to say all that's wrong. What they don't see are the thousands of people who don't have problems and don't come in. So I wouldn't panic about Toyota/Lexus quality. They are still rated on top in all surveys. If one has any fears, they should talk to a BMW, Audi, Jaguar tech. Now, THEY stay busy.

LOL! A friend of mine is a BMW tech down in San Diego. You wouldn't believe the kind of issues he's seen on relatively new (<30k miles) BMW's! Especially with the HPFP's, he's seen owners come in 2-3 times before hitting 30k even lol

Try to befriend a tech, they always need extra money. I get oil changes for 20.00 all I have to buy is the oil filter from the parts dept.
