you will have a light on your dash and will not go away. Do a search there few things people do when not putting TPMS in new wheels. "pipe bomb" or they throw them all in the spare tire.

if you already have the tpms, why not just get an adaptor for your wheels? i believe there is a thread on here(i think its about Javy) and how using the pipe bomb tpms method puts you at high risk for when your tire pressure is low. I'd play it on the safe side, especially with the cold temperature this time of year.

Since TPMS is a federally mandated safety system it is illegal for a tire shop or repair shop to perform any service that disables the system.

The repair shops and tire shops have been struggling with the issue since they came out.

Below is information that was recently published on a tire industry site.

You get an annoying Check System msg in the instrument cluster and the little orange tire light. Pressing Display on the steering wheel will only temporarily change the screen for a few seconds before Check System comes back.

On another note, it's a very good idea to properly mount the TPMS onto the rims whether they mount onto the barrels or be used with TPMS adapters. I was notified one day my tire pressure is low. Checked my tire pressures to find the one with the low pressure has a huge nail in it.. The system is there, use it, not go around it.

Other than the TPMS warning on the dash, there are no other side effects.

yah, I went without my sensors for about 6 months because the tire place forgot to swap them over and I didn't have time to go in and get them put onto the new wheels. I almost sold the old wheels with the sensors in them! :P I hate the light though-can't stand it on my dash, just gives me a headache.

That may be intentional
