I'm not saying that it causes all sorts of failures, but, it should be a well known fact that most electrical and mechanical pumps (and other devices) benefit from running at a consistent temperature and from preventing getting too hot... how hot is too hot, I don't know for sure, but fuel pumps definitely fail, and one way to help them keep cool is to not run a fuel tank too low...

This hasn't actually been true on most Lexus/Toyota cars since at least the Mk4 Supra in the 90s... they designed a small fuel resivoir the pump sits in to keep it cool, so that you can go well below 1/4 tank and have no problems.
I'd still go ahead and fill up at least by the time the light comes on, but you're not gonna harm your fuel pump going under 1/4 tank.
Lobuxracer has posted some pics from TIS showing the system in the past if you wanna search on it.

As you can see back in 2007 I was doing the same "OMG! run under 1/4 and you risk killing your fuel pump!" thing because I didn't know about how Lexus/Toyota had engineered around the problem back in 1993... Lance was kind enough to correct me, and I've been paying that forward since

I still think there is an issue with it. How come I can pump up to 17 gallon when on E but now I can't. that is my question. I did it before for years but all of the sudden I can't. That is wierding me out.......
