Unhappy Gas wont fill up all the way.

My mte is usually 375 to 385 but recently it has drop tremendously. Now MTE is 280 to 300 when filled. My gas gauge mark is full but I'm not getting all the gas in my tank. Its only letting me get 14 gallon out of 17gallon. I don't know why it's doing that. Please Help! Thanks!

That is what you should be filling at E, approx 14-15 gallons. There's about a 2-2.5 gallon reserve when the light comes on for those who keep driving anyways. lol if your miles per tank is dropping, its because your driving habits have changed, or your car needs servicing of some sort.

If you're only putting in 14 gallons into a 17 gallon tank, then you still had 3 gallons left in the tank to drive on. I've driven my car 30 miles past the MTE many times. I'm sure you'll find you could easily do the same. I believe the MTE is based off recent driving history so if you only went 300 miles on the last tank, it uses that as it's reference point. Although, that's purely speculative on my part.

I don't think you guys understood my question correctly. My tank size is 17 gallon. My gas gauge is only indicating it's a 14 gallon tank. That mean before when I filled it up all the way it allows me to have my max at 385 miles but now at my max when filled is only 300 miles.

Andy,

You can only fill 14.5-15 gallons MAX when the needle is at E. our cars have a 2 gallon-ish reserve.

The computer "miles remaining" is just an estimate based on your driving habits/previous tank mpg/etc.

Disconnect your battery for 20 minutes. Reset everything, start over. I don't go by my MTE, I use the trip meter. My MTE says 0 miles till empty and I can go another 40+ miles.

Yeah your not gonna fill full 17g unless your drive it till it dies on empty. My 350 I only get 331 on a full tank durning winter change over.

I always able to fill up to 17 gallon of gas..why it wouldn't let me fill 17 gallon of gas now but only 14. Maybe something have to do with my evap system chacoal canister, fuel inject, or vents is clogged or even something wrong with some selonoids. I don't know. I was hoping someone know.

wouldn't that reset all the defaults in my car. I will probably lose everything I saved in my nav. On top of that I'm not even sure that will work.

Then you have plenty of miles left to go. If you're using the MTE as your gas gauge it's going to mislead you. Drive until your gas light comes on, which indicates you have 2.5 gallons left (or something close to that.) Then drive another 40-50 miles. Somehow your equating how much gas you put in to the size of your tank. The only way this is possible is if you ran it until it was literally empty, not what some gauge or MTE display is telling you. Those are only estimates.

I did do that...I drove till I had only 1.5 gallon left and the light e light didn't come on. I'm starting to think I might have a bad fuel sending unit.
