I've been experiencing something similar. My driver's side (left) HID goes out randomly while I am driving. I can get them to turn on again by switching to the DRLs and then back to HID.

It doesn't seem like the bulb is about to go out as once I have turned back to the low beams, the intensity of the light is still as bright as the passenger side one.

Ballast issue maybe?

never happened to me... Are the lights all stock or have you swapped them for LED's ? Does it happen when the headlights are on the AUTO ?

If the interior lights go out, I'd look into the fuse.

If it's just the headlights, could be a ballast issue, or a electrical bulb contact wire issue. I had something similar to by Z4, in which the headlight was not completely sealed and would corrode the wire from the ballast to the bulbs, which would result in one headlight shutting off until I restarted the car and reinitialized the HID.

Only way would be to replace the ballast if it is in fact the ballast failing.

sounds like the ballast to me. hopefully you still have warranty. OEM ballasts run about 150+ ebay has those xentec hids ballasts that run about $35 bucks. Pretty easy install. But problem with those xentec hids I noticed when I had replaced my passenger side ballast in my S2000 was that overtime it started to flicker a little bit. plus the color wasnt as bright as oem. you couldnt really noticed unless you were looking at both real close. I believe I saw a thread here about best HIDS for the 2IS last week. You might wanna look into that to see what your options are
