As far is warming the car up, the car does not shift into 6th gear for a period of time immediately after start up, but once it's up to the temp, the 6th gear becomes available.
Well All day on Monday we drove it around making our after Christmas day runs and still never got past 4th. The car just revs at high rpms and never shifts past 4th (not even in S mode).

And as far as being the first owner, we are not. The problems just started happening recently (within the past 8 months or so). We traded in our 2002 IS300 for it and that thing NEVER gave us any issues (up to 90k miles). Not sure if to get back into a Lexus or not. Wife wants a GS. I don't mind it. Problem is for me that it seems once you start having these cars rely on electronics (ie electronic steering, electronic speed controls, electronic shifting, electronic drive monitoring systems, etc.), cars start failing or begin having issues after so long. These manufacturers are taking the mechanical and hydraulic systems out of vehicles for devices that are not fail proof. (sorry for my ranting lol)

I'd call Lexus corporate up if your dealership isn't working with you. Your car seems to have far more issues than normal and far more serious ones than normal on a 2IS. I've actually never heard of a 2IS suffering from some of the issues you've described above. My 2007 350's at 65k but it's CPO, so hopefully I've dodged a bullet there.

**UPDATE** Car is back and now shifting like normal. Looks like it was the speed sensor this whole time. Hopefully it stays this way (or someone finishes buying it). Still puzzled as to how the dealer failed epically on the diagnoses.

Glad to hear you got it resolved!

On a side not i think it's hilarious how this message board blows up when someone experiences more than the average issues with their 2IS. Ok so your headgasket blew and you had a speed sensor go out. Sure the headgasket is not a common thing to go with the IS but it's also not impossble. The IS has a great track record as do most Lexus's but that doesn't mean there isn't going to be a one off. The OP is right the more electronic stuff on the vehicle the more that can go wrong. I can tell you that a bare bones car is more reliable that many new Lexus's. Do they have a stronger engine or transmission? Probably not but there are many more things that can go wrong on an IS. While most of the stuff that can go wrong won't leave you stranded it can certainly break the bank if you don't have a warranty.

You my friend still have a ways to go to reach his mileage as he stated all of his issues happened in the last 8 months. You have definitely not dodged any bullet yet as anything can happen.
