Why to not let a BMW repair shop work on your ISx50

I did ask for a quote before hand and he told me approx 500-700 bucks which I was cool with. I gave him my car and after a couple of days got a call back telling me it was alittle more complicated then what he first anticipated and they would have to put maby 2 or 3 hours more into the vehicle to get it perfect. I was still OK with this at the $65 an hour thinking it was going to be closer to the 6-700 range.
Lesson learned hence the title of the post.
I'll be looking for another good shop around town after this.

Him: $1500.
You: I only authorized $700 max at first, then another $130-195, so you'll be getting $895.
Him: Ok, I'l give you 10% off- $1300!
You: Which part of $895 is the most I authorized did you not understand?
Him: But my guys spent a lot more hours on it than that!
You: Guess you ought to train them better. Run the card for $895 and I'll be going.
I did have a shop try something like this once (though the amounts were smaller, as was the job, I was just way too busy to do it myself unfortunately) and the guy threatened to keep my car if I didn't pay the full amount he asked for... I told him he was welcome to run the card for whatever he wanted but I wasn't agreeing to pay it or sign anything and when I got home I'd be calling Visa to tell them to reverse the charges.... he gave up at that point and handed my keys over.

That's wack as hell. The guy put your car on the back burner for days and still raped you on the price. I would have been pissed to high hell and back. Shops do this because some people actually pay the asked amount.
On the other hand, glad your happy with the end result, that's all that matters!
