Default Why to not let a BMW repair shop work on your ISx50

There is a shop next to my house that specializes in BMW repair. I have been going there for awhile with my 525i (years now) and they have always taken good care of me. Not the cheapest place but i trusted their work! I've had my experience with crappy shops and this wasn't one of them.

So i got my PPE headers in awhile back and was getting them installed for my xmas present. I took my car up to the shop and showed the owner what i wanted and all of the instructions etc and he looked at it and said that it would be easy for his guys to take care of this and he would love a chance to get his hands on a Lexus and work on it.

This was all groovy... But i wasn't getting my car back, and wasn't getting it back and wasn't getting it back. 5 days later I get a call with it being done.

I go and get the bill........ $1300 for the header and o2 conditioner install.

9 hours of labor for the headers and 5.5 hours for the o2 conditioner.

When i asked him about it he said that they had to do alot of research for torque settings, etc, etc and that even with that, their time isn't free. I complained some more and he gave me 10% off (which made it the 1300, so like 1500 to start)

Everything seems to be good though. Headers are installed and sound/perform awesome. So far no CEL so i think the O2 conditioner was installed correctly.

Its paid for, and i'm broke now, no regrets (maby alittle but i'll get over it)

Just wanted to share my story... Sorry for complaining Video Comming Soon!!!

Holy krud, $1300 to install headers! That's ridiculous. You should have asked for an estimate before taking it to get it installed if you knew they hadnt installed one before. But its all said and paid for, just hope those headers make a huge difference...

Wait a second. Lol

You dropped your car off.... whats the original amount they told you for installation? Or did you just tell them whatever it is...bill me for it? Because when i drop my car off somewhere, i know what it's going to cost me before i walk out. And if it's costing me any extra, i better be getting a phone call to ask whether i want to go ahead with the work or not.

$1300 for those 2 things is outrageously expensive! But i guess if your happy and you can stomach the bill and be cool with it thats all that matters lol

I did ask for a quote before hand and he told me approx 500-700 bucks which I was cool with. I gave him my car and after a couple of days got a call back telling me it was alittle more complicated then what he first anticipated and they would have to put maby 2 or 3 hours more into the vehicle to get it perfect. I was still OK with this at the $65 an hour thinking it was going to be closer to the 6-700 range.

Lesson learned hence the title of the post.

I'll be looking for another good shop around town after this.

Ahhh ok i see.

Man i would told him you quoted me $700 max the first time, add maybe 3 hrs of labor extra, for a total of $895..... When did i authorize you to go any higher?! That's all i'm paying you. lol.

Anyways what's done is done, i'm sure you would have debated the charge if you had wanted to. Glad you got it installed and will look for a different place next time

Wow that seems expensive. But at least you are happy with the work. Like you said, lesson learned. Good luck with finding another shop.

Reputable shops generally go by standard labor hours for a job and charge that. If they take longer, then that is their problem, and they should eat the cost.
