I parked my car like you once and a 80+ years old granny parked her car close to mine while half of the parking lot is empty. I watched her slowly open the door into my car from distance. Luckily, she only left a mark on my door that is not that noticeble. Didn't bother to talk to her, as she seems totally in another world.

yeah I hear ya. No matter how far you park someone always tries to get next to u. But this way the chances of door dings are less. I also try to get next to the curb so I only have to worry about one side
