Default Once and for All - 2006 and SmartCard question

Fellow CL members,

I feel like there is this debate, and no one knows for sure.

Does anyone have a 2006 IS that has successfully gotten a SmartCard key to work with their car? Again this is Lexus Part number #8990450642

I want one but have seen soo many conflicting posts...

Thanks

If you bought the smart key for 2006 - 2008 Lexus IS then it should work, as it's on the same rolling code prefix as the standard keyfob. If you bought the smart key for 2009 - 2011 for a 2006 vehicle (for example), then it will operate on a different code prefix, and will not work with your vehicle.

I don't mean any disrespect, but there are alot of shoulds and maybe and such. I know the part numbers, the issue is people who buy the right part and still say no, not possible for 2006, it is 2007-2008 only.

Thus I am looking for confirmation from a no kidding 2006 owner with a keycard.

Thanks

no real word? "should work" makes me weary when I am going to be spending that much cash. But it is such a sweet mod.

My husband got a used one from a member that had previously used it on his 2007 IS350. For whatever reason it didn't work. Turns out it was the wrong FCC number on the back of it or something that only allowed it to work on certain year Lexus' and not others. My 2006 was built in 2005. So the dealership just swapped it out with some other LS's card they had on sight and it worked. Just FYI.

The person who would know is lexus305. He is very smart with Lexus keys. He is a friend of my husband and I. He is a member on these forums.
