Hi, I am looking into purchasing an '08 IS350 soon. I was wondering what people on the board think about $26,000 for the car with 40k miles, sports package, navigation and ML audio. The car is pretty clean inside and out, but I am not sure about mileage, if it's worth the money. I've checked KBB and the price seems about right. It would be great if there are any new IS350 owners out there that can share how much they paid for their cars. Thanks!

Might want to post the link to the car so people can take a look.
I bought a 2007 IS350 in January. It had 56k miles, lux package, 18" optional wheels, navigation, GFX kit, F-Sport exhaust, and was Certified Pre-Owned (near-comprehensive warranty for 3 years/up to 100k miles). My price was $24,500.
I would say that our two deals were fairly close in price when adjustments are made. For example, yours has fewer miles and is a year newer, is probably still under warranty for a bit, and had ML audio. So yours being $1,500 more is probably about right based on those advantages over mine.
However, I will say that you're right in the "CPO sweet spot", meaning tons of cars in the year/mileage/price/model range you're looking at will be sold as CPO at a dealer. And my recommendation would be to seek one of these out. The CPO warranty is as close to the factory bumper-to-bumper warranty as you can get, and it can save you thousands. Ask all the CL members who have had to pay out of pocket for things like the cam gear or carbon build-up TSIB, nav screen failure, etc (these are the common issues for the 2IS, which are on the link I provided above). Each of those repairs cost $1500+.
It's extremely nice to be able to just drop off your car at the dealer and grab a rental when you have a problem, knowing you won't have to pay for diagnostics or a repair. And CPO adds only about $1000-2000 to a car's price vs an otherwise-comparable non-CPO car.
So if I were in your position (and I was, a year ago), I would seek out a CPO car even if you have to go back a model year and up a bit in mileage to bring it in line with the price you want. A 2008 40k mile non-CPO might be $26k, and a 2007 60k mile CPO might also be $26k. In that case, I'd choose the latter, because you'll have a comprehensive exclusionary warranty protecting you for 40k miles - this is much more valuable in my opinion than having a car with 20k fewer miles.

Find out the in-service date (the date it was originally sold)- Any Lexus dealer can tell you from the VIN
If it's less than 4 years (the first 08s went on Sale Sept of 2007, so probably 1/4-1/3 are past 4 years the rest aren't yet) then you have the option of buying a lexus extended warranty (from one of several folks who sell em online... there's a couple threads with their names/info- and they sell them much cheaper than your local dealer)... this has the possible advantage of letting you get up to 4-4.5 years more coverage (and up to 125k miles if you expect to put a lot of miles on), rather than the 3 years/100k a CPO gives you
The other nice thing if it's still under full warranty for a few more months- you get all the TSIB work done for free.
