Rear Defrost Problem 2008 is250
Rear defrost of 2008 is250 does not seem to be working fully. When I heat the car up only portions of the top are defrosting, took it into dealer and they stated that it only defrosts in the top portion, which seem a little ridiculous.....has anyone else experienced this? Does not seem right that the rear window needs to be cleaned off each time before you can actually drive it!

Do you have tints? It seems like someone could have used a razor blade incorrectly and cut your defrosters when fitting your tint. I've had his problem with previous cars as if there is a cut on the defroster lines they will not work.

No, the window is not tinted. Really only one side is heating up, the other is not getting as hot and will not fully heat the whole window. Lines go all the way the window though.

Can you give us a little more background? Was the defroster working fine, and now it's broken? Or is this a recently purchased used car where the defroster hasn't worked since you bought it?
Most of the rear defroster problems discussed on the forum have been related to window tinting: either problems during installation or in the case of a used car, removal.
As for proper operation, the top few lines on the glass are the radio antenna, and do not get hot. Other than the antenna, all the lines should get hot and clear the glass. Other than heavy snow or ice, I've never needed to clear my window by hand.

Its possible that there was a sticker on your window if purchased preowned.
not that its the same but when i sold my rx8 i had a firefighting sticker on the inside and they said that part of it has baked/heated onto one of the grid lines. same kind of thing happened. they stated it allowed contact so the whole grid worked but that it was only working at half force. they ended up replacing the windshield prior to sale.

We purchased this car used in the summer, so I am just now noticing that the defroster is not working. Does not look like any of the windows have ever been tinted. We always keep it in the garage and have not had snow this year. I left it out and it snowed, warmed the car up and noticed the snow was not melting on the bottom portion of the window, which makes it dangerous to see out.
I took it in and the first phone call I received said they found out the problem and were fixing it. When I went to pick it up they stated that only the middle of the windsheild actually warms up, the bottom portion is then suppose to melt from the heated snow running down. Sounds fishy to me.
All my other cars have always defrosted the whole windsheild.
