shudder at idle after oil change??
Just got home from firestone. They put in synthetic for my 10k. Now the car shakes at idle.
Potential problems? What to check?
I know nothing about changing oil.

i checked the oil. looks like the put WAY too much. you know how there are 2 indentations on the dipstick, then another inch higher theres a "twist"...my oil is one inch ABOVE the twist.
jesus.
not to mention, the place tossed me the keys of an SLS AMG by accident, thinking i was there to pickup. there were about to let me leave with the SLS without signing anything!

checking the receipt - they put in 6.6 qts of SAE 5W-30 full synthetic. (w/o filter change)
is that too much?

If they put way to much oil in then the crank could be slapping the oil in the pan at idle this could give you a shudder. Not sure if they use 1 qt containers for there oil but if not they could have used a pump to fill you up and checked the level with the dip stick not inserted fully and added to much. Let it sit for a couple of minutes and then check again.

Are you checking the oil on a flat surface and waiting a few minutes after its been turned off?
But either way, the simplest solution: Take it back and demand they check it out!
If they did overfill your oil, you don't want to be driving around with this issue for long, that's for sure!

Ok...I checked this morning...the car hasnt been running since last night
Refresher on what the dipstick looks like:
1 inch up, dot for empty
2.5 inch up, dot for full
3 inch up, there's a "twist in dip stick" about one inch long
My level is at about .5 inches above the top of the twist. It almost looks like I have twice as much oil as I should? Is this possible? My car doesnt seem to have too much damage.
Perhaps they never drained????
