Default Single head light randomly shuts off (2006 IS350)

After about 120k miles, my 06 has developed an odd electrical gremlin. Every so often, on of my HIDs will go dark, and the odd thing is, it's not always the same one and it's never both at the same time. Just one or the other. Flipping the switch off and back on again corrects the issue. Any ideas on what may be the issue?

Most likely that your HID bulbs are going bad... with that many miles, i wouldnt doubt it.

It could be a few things-not going to go into all the scientific things about HID's but it's either the bulbs or the ballast. I had a similar issue recently-and it ended up being the bulbs. The only way you can know for sure is by pulling out the bulbs, and inspecting them to see if there are any defects. If you have to take it to a shop you should have some bulbs ready to replace beforehand-or you're going to end up paying $200 per bulb if that's the issue. Good luck.

At 120k miles it's probably time to change the bulbs anyway due to the faded color. I'd recommend picking up two bulbs from a CL vendor and trying them out. If the issue goes away, you've solved it and you've got new, crisp HID bulbs. If it doesn't go away, you've narrowed it down to the ballast - fairly inexpensively, considering a shop or dealer might have charged you more for bulbs/diagnostics.

I bought these bulbs and they look fantastic: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/lig...ount-code.html

Thanks for the suggestion. What sort of defects would I be look for and where's the best place to buy replacement HID bulbs? Dealer?

EDIT: Thanks Calvin, I'll check those bulbs out.

I ordered a pair of bulbs Calvin mentioned and just got an email today saying they've been shipped. Looking forward to the install. The 5000k temp will be a nice upgrade too.

If you are looking for bulbs and or ballasts I have a brand new set of bulbs 5k and ballasts that I would sell for $60 shipped. Let me know. I can take pics and everything of them in their box.

But to answer your question it sounds like bad ballast.

I'll let you know. I've already purchased the bulbs, if that doesn't correct the issue i'll take you up on your offer if they're still available.

No worries man. If your problem persists and you need ballasts I have brand new set and I'd let em go for $30 shipped. Have a good week. I hope the bulbs cure your issue.

Just get new bulbs, nothing more. Don't let people on the forums scare you about something more than this. I just went through the same thing last month.

Just wanted to update this thread and thank everyone for their suggestions. I've had my new bulbs in for 2 months now and the problem is gone.
