Yep. That's exactly what I discovered over the weekend. Playing with the controls will stop and start the problem.

Car is going into the dealer on Tuesday. No way I am going to tear the dash apart. I was hoping for an easy fix, but doesn't look like that will happen.

Appreciate all the feedback and responses.

*Bringing this back to life!*

Happening to my gf 250 after a shop changed out her AC filter. Its making the exact sound like in this thread, and I want them to replace what they broke.

Question is, what exactly is broken?

if you read the book where it say how to change the ac filter it shows it need to be in circulation mode before opening, the didnt do that and forced the door to open and they messed it up, idk how much dealer charges but the shop has to cover since they damaged it

This is it. To clarify, it needs to be in REcirculate mode, and the door in front of the cabin air filter will open. If you force it open it will break and make that noise every time the car switches to recirculate mode (usually when you turn on the car and the auto climate control wants to cool down quickly so it switches to recirc mode by itself).

This thread may help you fix it if you need to do it yourself:
DIY - for an oops moment. Tried to replace cabin air filter without setting to circ.

Just to post the last follow-up on my situation, the dealer fixed it free of charge. Turned out they messed it up when it was there for its 50,000 mile service, which was fairly recent.

Thanks for all the feedback. That DIY thread above will help if it happens again.

Now on to the newest problem, the touch screen stopped responding to touch yesterday.

Unhappy blend door actuator

my wife's 2000 GS300 ac unit works on driver side but passenger side it doesnt, Been told its a blend door actuator and that to repair it is 8 hrs of labor?? if it was the driver side only 1 hr of labor how does all that make sense. First real problem with the GS.
thanks::

Not sure if this helps but before changing the cabin filter (LS460), the manual says to put the AC in recycle, shut off the engine, then proceed to change. If not, the door/gate that allows outside air to come in could get damaged. Also, did you run the ac blower with the filter removed? If you did, you might have a piece of paper, or leave fallen into the blade. The frequency of the noise makes me think that the door/gate that allows outside air in may be hitting the blower cage (air).
