Who has gone beyond 60k without changing spark plugs?
#18
I bought my car at 75k mileage and I don't see anything in the service history that plugs were already changed. Is there an easy way to know whether it was changed or not. What are the signs that plugs need to be replaced. I'm at 81k mileage now.

Most iridiums are good to 120k miles, including in most Lexus/Toyota models. The ISx50 are not long-life iridiums, they get changed at 60k miles. I'm sure he was trying to help and/or be honest, and in most cases he would be correct. I get people asking me to get spark plugs all the time when they can still wait another 60k miles, but the IS should get changed at 60k.

haven't changed mine yet and i'm just under 72K. will probably change them at 75K or the next month or so. If you notice a difference in gas mileage is one of the first indications of your spark plugs going bad. From what I read here on the forums it is hard to tell if the sparks plugs need replacement just from visual inspections. There is another member on here that has taken his is250 up to 120k without changing the plugs. I believe he has now well over 250K. I wouldn't recommend waiting till 120k. for me i'd rather spend the $420 at the dealership to get the spark plugs replaced and save myself the headache down the road.

and consider this math-
Even if you keep the car for 200,000 miles... the difference between following the factory interval or pushing it to 100k miles is only one plug change.... so it's not like you are saving some massive amount by ignoring what the people who built the car suggest.

My IS250 is at 59K, I called an indy lexus shop to check for the price of doing the spark plugs, he told me the car has iridium plugs so no need to change, and I can go another 30K before worrying about the plugs. This guys has great reviews for being honest and all, but is he being to casual about the manufacturer's recommendation? He said if I want he will change for me but it's not necessary. Has anyone gone to 70K or 80K before changing plugs? Thanks.
