Does anyone know if the TPMS actually have to be mounted for it to be programmed? Reason being is I might pick up a second set off of ebay and wanted to get it programmed before I buy my wheels because I am still debating on which wheels I want to get. Some wheels are also not tpms compatable which is why I might either do the Pipe Bomb or Spare tire trick. Any input would help !

I haven't called and asked but from what I heard it was in the hundred just to get them programmed. I called my local Goodyear and they said they could do it for $49 so I think that's where I am going to get them programmed
2 of my local toyota dealers wanted 75-100 and lexus wanted 120 another toyota dealer wanted only 50 after i talked to a guy and told him i knew it took them like ten minutes to do. Firestone offered to do it for 50 but their computer couldnt program the 2IS sensors. They need a specific computer/scanner for the toyota sensors.
I guess the dealer need to make money for their scan tool that cost $7500 and yearly subscription of $1200 or more for each scan tools that they have.
True, but somehow independent shops are also able to make money while charging a much more reasonable $50-$100. Just keep calling around for a good price.
Tire warehouse around you? They do it for like $20 and My dealer charger me $100. But some smaller shop dont have the scan to program both set of sensor like Lexus tho. That why i went to my dealer. So that when i switch from summer to winter i dont have to keep paying $20 each time. You can also you the tpms adapters. I have that on mine for the last 3years and work great on my 3 piece.
